Cinematics
Cinematics help story telling through emotion and entertainment. They make the player feel like they can see beyond the camera and beyond the insight of the characters. It opens up the player to secretes that the characters in the game are not aware of, therefore helping the player understand the background of situations much better. This helps tell the story in two different ways, through the minds and lives of the characters and as a player outside the game, seeing through a camera.
Cut scene
Cut scenes are just another way of telling a story, but with less interaction from the player in hand. This makes it easy for the player to follow the story as all they have to do is sit back and enjoy the scene. Its also very easy for them to understand the scenario better as they get to see it from a different perspective, like a film. cut scenes also help link parts of stories together too, helping the player understand why certain things are happening and what has caused them to happen.
Triggered Event
A Triggered event is basically like a cut scene except, its caused by something happening within the game play. This can help the player understand the story line through their own choices within the game. This is especially effective as the scene was triggered by you, and so you understand how link of events that you have caused have led to this event. A triggered event is usually a secret boss battle or a secret mission that could be activated on certain conditions, in which case you have met those conditions and so triggered and event to happen.
Player Control
Player control is incredibly helpful in story telling, as it gives the player a feel of how some things might work if the game was in real life. For example, if its a fighting game, then the player fighting control would be very important as the player would take that control as the way it would feel to be fighting in the game.
