Text: The Golden Compass
The Golden Compass is a prefect example of a text/book driven/inspired game. The book was originally released in 1995 as a novel, then went on to be the inspiration the film in 2007.
The game itself was inspired by the film, as it tells the story of the Golden Compass through puzzles and interactions. The game uses these puzzles to pace the player through the story with multiple collectibles. The collectibles consist of small book pages of characters in the game, explaining their relative background to the story. Most of these collectibles help the player understand some characters in the game and why they are how they are. This knowledge was accumulated from the original book, even though the game inspired by the film.
